Behavioural challenges and anxiety issues in schools are steadily increasing, with last academic year seeing a record number of suspensions and expulsions, 97% of which were SEN learners. In response to this growing concern, our very own Feliciea Jibson joined Simon Ashton, Assistant Principal for Student Experience, and Clare Kirk, Vice Principal and Designated Safeguarding Lead from Nacro Education, in a roundtable discussion on "Managing Learner Anxiety & Behavior Challenges," hosted by Headteacher Chat. Reactivity is our default response to evolving behaviours but why wait for behavioural issues to arise when you can prevent them? By understanding the roots of challenging behaviours, schools can cultivate an environment where issues are addressed before they even begin.
